Monday Combo 1/18

Today’s MUSING MONDAYS post is about tidy reading around people.

When is it inappropriate to read in front of others? Is it ever appropriate?

– Interesting question. I suppose it’s inappropriate to read when people are talking to you. Although my mom used to do that when I was talking to her (however mom was listening. Mom’s have special powers of listening and having eyes in the back of their head – must be a gift they get after having children).

Library Finds:

I took out the following at the library

The Sanctuary Seeker – Bernard Knight

Jane and the Unpleasantness of Scargrave Manor – Stephanie Barron

Touch the Dark – Karen Chance

Hood – Stephen Lawhead

So what are your answers for Monday’s Memes? 🙂

Monday Combo 1/11

Today’s MUSING MONDAYS post is about tidy bookshelves.

Are your bookshelves strictly books only? Or have knick-knacks invaded? Do your shelves also shelve DVDs? Photos? Why not snap a photo – I’m sure we all like to spy on other’s shelves!

– The shelf I have at my place is not photo worthy. It’s messy and still needs some tidying up to do. However, the break down goes like this:

Top shelf: magazines and cook books

Second: paperback books

Third: Medium sized book (large paperback ones) and on the other side are my DVD’s/Blu-rays

Fourth: Hard cover books

Fifth: all library books (which is extremely messy and it’s all sorted into “piles” and not properly into the shelves like normal books are. It’s just my way, as they’re sorted by due date.

Finally the very very last shelf (which isn’t really a shelf at all, it’s the floor) there’s nothing, just my tote bags for when I go to the library when I need my weekly restock.

Library Finds:

Way too bloody many but here’s some I took out last week:

Dark Lord – Ed Greenwood

The Virgin’s Daughters – Jeane Westin

Pretties – Scott Westerfeld

Mozart’s Sister – Nancy Moser

The Gates – John Connolly

The Physick Book of Deliverance Dane – Katherine Howe

So! what are your answers/what did you find at the library?

Monday Combo 11/16

Musing Mondays (BIG) Today’s MUSING MONDAYS post is about your bookshelf…

With the holiday season now upon us, have you left any hint – subtle or otherwise – for books family and friends might buy you for Christmas? Do you like to receive books, or do you prefer certificates so you can choose your own?

– I definitely prefer certificates!!!! my mom used to have headaches because she knew I had so many books, the hombre gave up a long time ago and just said to give him a list of the top 3 books I want and then he’ll get them for me 😀 makes him happy and me happy.  A lot of people think certificates are kinda “cheap” to give. Not me. Give me as many as you’d like. Especially ones from Amazon. Those I love the most. 😀

Mailbox Monday:

none. yes. Wipe that wide eyed look from your face 😉 I think because Wednesday was a day off for nearly everyone (including post office) so mail might be delayed. It’s ok. It’s not like I have so much to read.

Library Finds:

Pretty Little Liars – Sara Shepard

Not much this time 🙂 what are your answers?

Monday Combo 11/9

Today’s MUSING MONDAYS post is about your bookshelf…

Does your house have a communal bookshelf? If not, is your bookshelf centrally located so everyone has access to it?

– Nope. The shelves in the living room have all cooking books and magazines which aren’t touched except by me. The shelves downstairs are mine, and only touched by me. See a trend here? yes. I’m practically the only one in the house that reads. Oh well. There’s a lot of space for me then. 😀

Mailbox Monday:

I received the following:

Sense and Sensibility and Sea Monsters – Jane Austen & Ben H Winters (From publisher) (OMG I GOT THIS BOOK!! YAAYAYAYAY)

Life After 187 – Wade Halverson (Author Contact)

Death in the Stocks – Georgette Heyer (Sourcebooks)

Cold Pursuit – Carla Neggers (contest win)

Library Finds

The Tale of Hill Top Farm – Susan Wittig Albert (Cozy mystery time!)

Cirque Du Freak (A Living Nightmare) – Darren Shan

so! what did you find/receive/answer? 🙂

Monday Combo 11/2

Today’s MUSING MONDAYS post is about social reading…

How much of your reading do you share with others (outside of blogging?) Do you belong to a book or library club? Do you trade books with friends? Do you tell others what you’re reading?

– I don’t really share my reading with others except the hombre and one other friend. The rest of my other friends don’t read much. I wish I could trade books with friends nearby! that would be awesome! I do giveaway leftover books I have to other friends but that’s when I need some space for the incoming books 😉 normally I don’t really tell other people what I’m reading…seriously, unless they’re big bookworms like I am, would they really care?

Mailbox Monday:

I received the following:

Leviathan – Scott Westerfeld (contest win)

Nibble and Kuhn – David Schmahmann (pub contact)

Children of Dust – Ali Eteraz (pub contact)

The Manufactured Identity – Heath Sommer (Author contact)

Library Finds:

The Ghost King – R A Salvatore (WHEEEE!!!)

One Second After – William Forstchen

I took out a lot more, but that day I was so pissed off because my sister ruined my dinner plans and she just wouldn’t leave the house. So I was so mad I just can’t remember what books I took out besides those two. Ahem. All I remember was I took a lot out and it felt really good 😛 lol.
So! what are your answers? 🙂

Monday Combo 10/26

Today’s MUSING MONDAYS post is about note taking…

Do you take notes while reading – either for your reviews or for yourself? How/where do you make these notes (on the page, post-its, scrap paper, notebooks etc)?

– I don’t take notes at all. If I find some really great quote I memorize it and then go back to it when I review it. That’s it. No note taking here 🙂 it would remind me too much of school and the books I was forced to read and nearly ruined my experiences with books.

Mailbox Monday

I received the following this week:

Oh My Gods – Tera Childs (contest win)

Through the Triangle – C P Stewart (Bostick)

Library Finds:

The Concubine’s Daughter – Pai Kit Fai

City of Thieves – David Benioff

The Killing Floor – Lee Child

High Stakes – Erin McCarthy

So what are your answers? 🙂

Monday Combo 10/19

This is this weeks roundup of Monday’s memes:

Today’s MUSING MONDAYS post is about the read-a-thon…

Are you planning on participating in the upcoming 24 Hour Read-a-thon (either as a reader or cheerleader)? Have you made any preparations for the event? And, veterans out there, any tips you’d like to share with the newbies?

– I seriously wish I could participate! However Saturdays I do grocery shopping in the morning and then the hombre plans something for me to do so there goes half of the day. Then the other half of the day it’s hockey. I just found out it’ll be my team vs the hombre’s team scheduled to play this Saturday (Canucks vs Leafs). So in other words. No can diddly do. See why I like Sundays so much? Sunday is my sabbath. I vehemently let everybody know that and they leave me alone lest they face my wrath. However, a wonderful big heartfelt kudos to those who are participating in this read-a-thon. I will be cheering all of you participants on the sidelines while watching the hockey game (I’ll have the laptop with me and twitter so I can chat and cheer you guys on!) go bookworms go! 😀

Well at least I got him reading (he’s reading more thanks to me)
